Frome Nub News has been sent a photo of one of the worst incidents of fly tipping we have seen in the town.

This is the scene up on Gipsy Lane today (October 14).

The fly tipping is so bad along Berkeley marsh that the road is impassable.

It is not totally clear when the extensive haul of rubbish was tipped, but the Nub News reader who took the photo said it wasn't there yesterday (October 13).

The debris, which includes car parts and a car seat, also includes garden waste.

Fly tipping is a criminal offence and Mendip has a phone number to report dumped waste (0300 303 8588) but warns that they will not clear up rubbish on private land.

Fly tippers can face a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months imprisonment if convicted in a Magistrates' Court. The offence can attract an unlimited fine and up to five years imprisonment if convicted in a Crown Court.

As we reported on Nub News, fly tipping in the first period of coronavirus lockdown rose by over 50% in Somerset. You can read that report HERE: the Frome Nub News site
