Frome RFC travelled to Oxford on Saturday for their first ever fixture with Quins.

Although coming off the back of a home defeat against Marlborough RFC, the visitors started with intent and forced an eary penalty which Full Back, Darrell Thompson duly converted.

The home side responded quickly and after quick ball, were able to release their backs to score out wide. The Frome forwards were carrying hard with Captain Alex Mallon and George Benstead gaining valuable territory. The continued pressure led to Harlequins conceding another penalty which Thompson converted.

Oxford Harlequins retook the lead through a converted try but Frome narrowed the gap through another Thompson penalty as the home side continued to transgress to prevent Frome scoring.

With half time approaching the home side we're awarded a 5 metre scrum from which the scrum half nipped over to give them a half time lead of 19-9.

HT: Oxford Harlequins 19 - 9 Frome RFC

Frome felt they were still in the match as the Frome Pack and man of the match Benstead, continued to dominate the close exchanges. However, despite the bright start to the second half Oxford continued to threaten across the park and Frome conceded a couple of try's to the quick Oxford back line.

The visitors were able to showcase some great movement of the ball and were rewarded when after some strong carries from the backline into the opposition half they received reward when replacement James Howard powered over from close range.

Despite conceding another breakaway try Frome continued to press the opposition line and scored again after good hands by youngsters Alex Chambers and Bailey Rusz released Thompson to score out wide.

Frome's next league fixture is on Friday night (17th September) at home against Sherborne RFC.
