The Frome RFC 2nd XV welcomed Warminster RFC 1st XV to The Lane on Saturday, and with the sun shining it was certainly set to be a perfect day for rugby.

It was the home side that took control in the opening minutes, a good kick return and ball retention, Frome gained a penalty just outside their 22, with Captain David Abrahams pointing the posts, Full Back Ben Eley duly converted.

Frome defended well and managed to apply the pressure to any Warminster attack, on 8 mins the pressure built and lead to another penalty, Eley converting.

From the kick off, No.8 Rob James had a great run out of the Frome 22 taking it up to the ten metre line before another penalty meant Frome could take more territory. From the resulting line out Frome managed to drive Warminster at least 20 metres which lead to Frome getting in behind the Warminster defence which allowed Prop, Dan Chaventre to go over on 12 mins.

Fly Half Brad Parry was keeping the Warminster defence guessing by putting kicks in behind the defence with some great follow up chasing by Wingers Matt Warnock and John Spencer.

On 15mins following a kick over the top, Eley managed to get in a crunching tackle, which allowed Flanker Will Button to go on the rampage with Warminster giving away another penalty. Abrahams opted for the post and Eley converted again.

The visitors upped their game and Frome started to give away penalties, which allowed Warminster back into the game, but Frome stood firm and kept up their tackle count, no more so than Flanker Fin Wilding who seemed to everywhere in defence.

On 36 mins, Frome managed to get some phases together and played out of defence and turned it into attack again with Button making ground, and Centre Ethan White carrying well.

With Frome back in the oppositions 22, Hooker Phil Clarke picked up and managed to brake through the first tackle which allowed him a clear run to the line.

Following the kick off, there was a great run of play with some amazing support play which lead to Flanker Wilding going over for his first try for the club. Eley adding the extras.

The second half started off well for Frome and with 5 mins in, Frome were awarded a scrum on the half way and went blind, and again following some great support play with backs and forwards involved, the try was finished off by Winger John Spencer. Eley adding the extra.

Frome made changes at 45 mins, with Spencer off with Cory Plumridge coming on.

Followed by Ethan White coming off for Ed Darwent.

On 53 mins with Frome in control, the backline showed what they could do, and with a great move allowing Eley to cut a great line taking them up into the Warminster 22, this lead to a try scoring chance but it didn't quite come off.

55 mins Eley made way for Jack Stickley and Frome managed to turn over a scrum in the Warminster 22 allowing No.8 James to go on a storming run and Button going over for a well deserved touch down. Stickley added the extras.

On 75 mins a storming run by Hooker Clarke took the Frome side into an attacking position, which the backs were happy to take on, with Winger Plumridge coming off his wing to take the ball at pace and touching the ball down. Stickley added the extras.

As the match was coming to an end, the Frome side showed a little too much confidence and tried to play out of their own 22, but a pass missed its intended target allowing the Warminster Full Back to score a consolation try, with the kick added.
