Gordon Grierson lead his men out for the first time as newly-promoted Frome RFC II took on Calne RFC.

The first half started with Frome taking control and moving through the phases, with great carries by Grierson, Duppa-Miller, Bridle and Randall, ending with winger Giles being on the end of a sweeping move to score in the corner. Giles added the extras.

Calne hit back taking advantage of some poor tackling to score with a conversation. Frome managed to get their game back with new signing Duppa-Miller getting a much deserved try before Frome lost centre Jones to the sin bin at the end of the half for going in on the wrong side.

The second half did not start well for Frome, with them conceding three points almost from the kick off.

Frome immediately hit back with a great kick off which lead to a line out, driving Calne back towards their line, allowing No. 8 Randall to crash over. Giles added the conversion.

Things started to unravel slightly for the visitors as the home side started to impose their game plan, allowing Calne to score again with a conversion.

Frome could not find their earlier form and Calne kept them camped in their own half forcing Frome to try and run their way out which lead to an intercept try with only ten minutes to go.

This seemed to wake the Frome players with centre Jones quick thinking, tapped a penalty and going over almost untouched.

Then with only seconds remaining Frome had a penalty awarded and decided to turn down the kick to posts which would have made it a draw and went for the corner.

With a great catch the drive was on, Calne defended desperately but could not stop the forwards as they crashed over with Randall dotting down with the all-important try.

Final ccore: Calne RFC 27 - 29 Frome RFC II

Man of the Match: Michael Duppa-Miller
