An artist in Frome was entertained today by news that the government, which her textile work is highly critical of, used an image of her shop as part of its marketing.

To advertise Treasury help for small businesses, they used a small business in Frome, which is diametrically opposed to the government.

Poot Emporium on Catherine Hill has a show stopper of a window which is packed with pokes at government policy. They criticise how the coronavirus pandemic has been handled, how the government has dealt with Brexit and how woolly Boris Johnson is at the helm.

The work has been created by artist Kate Talbot who has been needling the Conservatives for years with her political satirical artwork.

Today she told Nub News: " Are the government really this stupid to use our window and not check? "

Kate is an artist and illustrator specialising in hand stitched imagery and soft sculpture.

The shop posted today: " Ha ha you couldn't write this crap! Today I wake to the news that the UK government have used a pic of my shop @pootemporium to advertise their grants for businesses struggling during local lockdowns. Have they seen what's in our windows?

The irony has not been lost on the residents of Frome who today are clicking on the link for 'Ministers announce new grants for businesses affected by lockdown'. "

Poot Emporium is an independent creative collective of local designers and artists on Frome's Catherine Hill. But examples of Kate's work - from a huge textile bleach bottle and a big Marmite pot - are prominent in the windows.
