Frome's McDonald's was one of the latest branch of the fast food giant to open today (June 3),with long queues of customers and the police needing to re-direct traffic to keep it moving.

Drivers were pre-warned to expect long delays when it opened at 11am - one of a further 497 restaurants that re-opened.

But a local police officer, called to re-direct traffic away from the site, expressed frustration that the long line of cars was causing traffic to back up all along the main road.

The officer, who did not wish to be named told Nub News that he would have to stay until the long line of cars was served - directing traffic to allow emergency vehicles to pass through the Wessex Fields site.

The company had warned customers to expect to wait.

In a statement from head office it said : " We are glad to be back but it will look a little different and may take a little longer, so please bear with us. We have fewer employees in our kitchens to enable our teams to social distance and work safely."

The menu was also shorter, with no breakfast or shakes, but the branch was expecting to be open until 10pm.

It also encouraged customers to cap their spend at £25.
