Frome's new MP has said Friday's (July 5) election victory is the "privilege of my life".

Liberal Democrat Anna Sabine, has been elected the first Member of Parliament for the newly created Frome and East Somerset.

Ms Sabine was elected with 16,580 votes, a 5,415 majority and was one of 72 Lib Dems to be elected to parliament last week.

"It is the privilege of my life to represent Frome and East Somerset," she said following the victory.

"Over the last few months, it has been the greatest joy to meet with people across the constituency and to be welcomed with such warmth into homes, businesses and schools.

"I cannot wait to get to work and make sure that this beautiful place is properly represented in parliament.

"I want to thank everyone who has voted for me, including those who have lent me their vote. I will work hard every day to honour that decision".
