Edventure Frome is launching their latest start-up project, in which a team of adult students will create a new multifunctional community space for Frome.
The project is all about bringing people together and has an ambition to host various social events including music, film nights, comedy and community groups.
The space will simultaneously serve as a laundrette and offer practical services to local people - which will welcome users to enjoy a warm space to enjoy hot drinks and good company.
Start-up is Edventure's course in making ideas a reality by developing and launching a new social enterprise. Now in its twelfth year, the course was born from the realisation that people often have passion and ideas but not the opportunity, skills, confidence or community to turn those ideas into reality.
Past Edventure Start-Up students have created Share, the first library of things in the UK and the first community fridge, (both now duplicated across the country), as well as Loop a community composting company, and the Frome Wardrobe Collective sharing clothes and many other inspiring initiatives.
Doug Stewart, Edventure's CEO said "Start-up is all about getting hands-on, trying something new, and making a real difference. Anyone who wants to be a force for good in the community, learn how to make ideas reality, and have some fun, is invited."
Thanks to funding from Somerset Skills and Learning, the Edventure Start-up course is open to people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences, at no cost to Somerset residents. The next course is from 8 March to 24 June 2024, and runs on Fridays, 9.15 to 2.45 pm.
Enrollments are now open with limited places remaining - if you'd like to find out more go to edventurefrome.org/start-up
