Frome fire crews were called out to deal with a serious road traffic collision on the A361 Frome bypass, which led police to advice motorists to avoid the area at just after 6pm (August 10).

The whole road was closed for over an hour as fire, police and the ambulance service were called to an accident not far from the Blatchbridge roundabout.

The fire service reported that crews from Frome and Glastonbury, assisted by colleagues from Warminster (Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service) were mobilised following a crash , involving an articulated lorry and a car, where both vehicles had left the carriageway and come to rest in hedgerow, trapping both drivers.

On arrival crews set to work stabilising the vehicles and working alongside paramedics to allow them to assess the casualties, before extricating them using stabilisation equipment and a hydraulic platform, from the Heavy Rescue Vehicle, to access the cab of the lorry. Once released and the vehicles, and scene made safe, duty of care was left with the ambulance service.

The incident was declared closed by 9pm.
