Add a splash of colour to the streets of Frome by making community bunting

By Guest 21st Aug 2019

Frome residents with a passion for sewing and crafts are being asked to turn their hands to creating community bunting for the town.

Collecting A4 fabric samples is the first step with local shops and individuals invited to donate any spare fabric to the cause.

Residents are then encouraged to get involved in reducing, re-using and re-purposing the material into 1,000 meters of fabric bunting to brighten up the streets.

There will be two family-friendly ways to get involved, firstly you could stop by Frome Town Council's stand at the Cheese Show on 14 September.

Or you could join them for a community making event on 15 September from 10am to noon at Frome Town Hall.

Mayor of Frome, Mark Dorrington, said: "The activities are planned as part of working towards becoming as plastic free as possible.

"Turning the fabric samples into beautiful bunting will be a great way to bring the community together and enhance the town's image."

The bunting will be used for events and important dates in the town's calendar, such as the Frome Carnival on Saturday 21 September.

Frome Town Hall is a drop off point for any fabric donations, as is Frome Women's Shed who will be helping to sew the bunting together at events.

Local businesses such as Millie Moon and James Gaunt Interiors are signing up to get involved and offer their support, if you are interested, email [email protected].
