The "success" of the return of the Frome Independent, due next in the town on November 7 has led organisers to expand the road closures and barriers that allow thousands of visitors to throng the streets.

They have produced a leaflet for all householders giving plans for those closures and asking those impacted to apply for a vehicle pass.

The market, arguably the busiest and most popular in the South West, shuts the whole of Frome from setting up at 6am until the final barriers are lifted at 5pm.

During the market, the first Sunday of the month in Frome, there is already what they call a 'soft road closure' of the main road through the town, heading over past the cinema, Cork Street.

Organisers say that because the market is so busy and successful they need to put in more traffic controls.

The market started in June 2013, and returned to Frome this September ( after a smaller event prior to the large Sunday market) and hosts live music, artisan stalls, a food market and a large vintage fair in the car park outside the Cheese & Grain.

So on November 7 they will also close North Parade and Welshmill junction, which potentially will have a much bigger impact on local residents. To head off any complaints, the organisers propose an advisory diversion route, to create a loop in a clockwise direction. This they say should prevent "contraflow congestion in some areas, particularly on Rodden Road and Wallbridge."

They have asked residents and businesses who live or work in the closure zones to apply for a pass, asking people to email [email protected] with your name, address and vehicle registration.
