Ancestry hunters on hand at Frome Library

Somerset Libraries Presents is hosting a Local History Day at Frome Library on Saturday 21 May between 10am-3pm to help find out more about house history, Frome or hidden ancestors.

Would you like to know how to research the history of your house, or discover hidden ancestors? Do you have a question about the history of Frome or your local area? Then Frome Library's Local History Day is for you.

The Local History Day will feature expert advice and information from Somerset Heritage Centre, Frome Society for Local Study, Frome Heritage Museum, and local historian David Lassman. Frome Family History Group will be there to help you get the most out of Ancestry, they will also be joined by genealogist Rhiannon Lloyd from Shersca Genealogy.

 All involved will be happy to answer any questions and offer handy tips and support. You can drop in between 10am-3pm, no booking is needed.

Frome library's local history collection includes Parish Information Packs, historic maps, books, periodicals, and newspaper microfilms dating back to the mid-nineteenth century. Library members can also access Ancestry and other online resources for free at the library.

There will be an opportunity to take part in their Frome Jigsaw Challenge too! Working together, to complete a 1000-piece street map jigsaw of Frome in one day.

Liz Stone, Frome Library Supervisor, commented: "May is Local and Community History month and we are delighted to take this opportunity to showcase our resources and offer visitors the chance to pick the brains of local experts.

"Local History Day at Frome library is a great way to start your journey back in time, whether you are new to Frome or have lived here all your life."
