Number 8 Bath Street in the centre of Frome, the shop next to St John's, has an application in to become an off licence, and wants to be open until 4 am.

Under the licensing act the owners have put in a bid to be open for the sale of alcohol Monday to Saturday 11:00 - 04:00.

The notice, posted in the last few days on the building might come as a bit of a surprise, since it was expected that the premises were going to be a coffee and bakery shop.

The shop was previously Fiat Lux, a lighting showroom which had opened in 2003.

Now the change of use can be seen at the council offices in Shepton Mallet, with comments needed to be given in writing to Licensing, Cannards Grave Road. Those are open until January 10.
