A veterans' health roadshow is stopping off in multiple locations across Somerset next month (12-13 July) to raise awareness of available health services in the county.
The drop-in event – driven by collaborative working of the charities and organisations involved – will also highlight some of the organisations and charities in Somerset that veterans and the wider Armed Forces community can access.
The roadshow will visit Somerton, Merriott, and then, on the following day, Minehead and Weston-Super-Mare.
Some of the organisations expected to be in attendance are the ARK, Rock 2 Recovery, Help for Heroes, Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS), Rusty Road to Recovery, Op Courage, We Are With You, RBL, SSAFA, Forces Employment Charity, Somerset Community Resilience Team, the Armed Forces Covenant, DWP, and many more.
Help for Heroes' Veterans Clinical Advisor, Janine Whitley, who has been personally involved in the project, explained: "We're continuing to educate veterans to the availability of veterans' health services in Somerset, and to network, share information, signpost, and enable referrals to those services.
"This is the third such roadshow we have organised, and, if successful, we will, hopefully, reach further afield in the future. It's a drop-in event, so veterans or their families and service providers need to do nothing more than turn up at the relevant venue at the appropriate time. We look forward to meeting them."
The full itinerary is:
12 July 2023
10am-12 midday Cox's Yard, West Street, Somerton TA11 7PR
1pm-3pm ARK at Egwood, Egwood House, Merriott, Somerset, TA16 5QN
13 July 2023
10am-12 midday West Somerset Railway. The Railway Station, Minehead, Somerset TA24 5BG
1.30pm-3.30pm Western Super Mare Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1AL
Help for Heroes champions the Armed Forces community and helps them live well after service. The charity helps them, and their families, to recover and get on with their lives. It has already supported more than 27,000 people and won't stop until every veteran gets the support they deserve.
