Permission has been granted for the ATM to be removed and the signs to be taken down at the former Halifax bank in Frome.

The branch closed last month, as the latest of the major banks to pull out.

And with the building at The Bridge been listed, Somerset Council has had to grant permission before the works could take place.

The application explained: "On the front elevation, two hanging projecting signs will be removed. The brackets will remain in place for possible future use and to minimise disturbance to the heritage asset fabric.

"The over-entrancedoor fanlight glass with a Halifax 'Wordmark' logo, will be replaced with clear glass. The individual letters fascia sign will be removed and the redundant fixing holes will be filled with lime mortar to match the stonework as closely as possible.

"The security camera will be removed and the redundant wiring and fixing holes will be filled with lime mortar to match the stonework as closely as possible.

"The external ATM and collar surround will be removed and the aperture will be infilled with clear glass."
