A major project is underway after Frome Town Council gave the go ahead to install floodlights at the Community Tennis Courts in the Mary Baily Field.

The courts are operated by Frome Tennis Club, under agreement with the town council who are trustees of the field. So they were asked to agree to the plans before the club went ahead and started the floodlight project.

The Club is now applying for planning approval, using the impressions of the floodlighting scheme shown.

The estimated cost of the floodlights is around £60,000 but the club has already been promised £30,000 from Sport England and the LTA.

Once the planning approval has been obtained and sufficient funds have been raised the club has further plans for a new pavilion to replace the existing clubhouse.

The Club's Development & Fundraising Officer John Price said: " We are a club that is looking to transform tennis in Frome and grow club membership. We have free initial month's membership and completely free tennis for children from low income households."
