Not yet a vacancy but the Liberal Democrats say they are ready to take on Frome MP David Warburton.

A by-election is not YET called, but with a new on line petition asking the town's MP to step down, the opposition are not taking things slow.

The Liberal Democrats want to knock on 20,000 doors and this weekend the drive began in earnest with one local councillor travelling hundreds of miles to support the would-be candidate to take on David Warburton.

Cllr Councillor Brian Wernham, Stanwix Urban Ward, Cumberland Lib Dems told Nub News: " "I travelled down from Carlisle in Cumbria to support the wonderful candidate, Sarah Dyke for Somerton and Frome. We campaigned in Frome on Saturday and in Somerton on Sunday. The team knocked on hundreds of doors. The target is to knock on 20,000 or more doors over the next few months until a by-election is finally called.

"So many residents said that although they had voted conservative all their lives, this time they are changing and will vote Liberal Democrat. The number one reason quoted to me was that they wanted someone who could get things done for area, rather than be far away ignoring the local community. They felt ignored. I also met several people who previously would only have considered Green or Labour.

"Sarah Dyke will make a wonderful MP. We are now all waiting to see if a by-election is going to be called in the near future."

Meantime there is now an on line petition to get David Warburton MP who has represented Frome and Somerton since 2015 to resign.

The campaign HERE argues that the MP cannot represent constituents in any meaningful way.

They report that accusations against the MP - of drug taking and sexual harassment could take months to be completed and while they are no one is looking out for Frome.

The petition is: " I realise that the accusations against you have yet to be resolved and it appears that this will take months to be completed. The constituency needs an MP who is able to attend and function in the Chamber. In these troubled times it seems to me the correct thing is for you to resign your seat. Please resign so that someone else can be elected to represent us."
