Campaigners fighting the planned closure of the last dedicated mental health ward in Mendip, were in Frome to take their protest to a meeting of the board which decides health care allocations across Somerset.

St Andrew's Ward in Wells has been earmarked for closure for over a year with protestors arguing that if the ward closes the only location for inpatient care will be all the way over in Yeovil. Impossible to get to for visiting friends and families, unless you have a car.

The meeting of the Integrated Care Board (the body which replaced the Clinical Commissioning Group) met at Frome Medical Centre but protestors were keen to stress that It was not in any way meant to pressure the Medical Centre who do a wonderful job.

More than 4,000 people have signed the petition to save St Andrew's so far. The health managers said that the change was in line with "moving away from bed-based interventions".
