A newly released CGI previews just one of the homes available at the soon-to-launch Francis Fields development in Frome.

The new imagery offers a first glimpse of the four bedroom detached Avondale property within the new development situated at The Mount.

Homes at Francis Fields will be available to reserve this spring with first occupations during summer 2025.

The development will feature 118, two, three and four bedroom homes on Frome's southern edge.

Properties will comply with Part L standards to "allow homeowners to potentially make substantial cost savings on their energy bills".

All homes will feature solar panels and there will be electric vehicle charging provisions at the development. Properties will be constructed with a strong emphasis on design and sustainability with features to minimise environmental impact and help homeowners save on energy bills.

Additionally, the latest water and energy-saving appliances in kitchens and bathrooms are expected to reduce consumption by up to 26% per day per person.

Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: "We worked closely with the local community and local authorities to ensure this new community is sustainable, ecologically sensitive and carefully designed to complement and reflect the local area and the historic town of Frome.

"As you can see, designs reflect the character of the area and include materials including reconstituted stone and dressed stone windows and door surrounds that are in keeping with surrounding properties.

"The image allows potential buyers to visualise the lifestyle they could enjoy with a move to Francis Fields."

Keyford is well located for sustainable travel. Frome is within 2km cycling distance meaning a wide variety of amenities will be easily accessible for residents. The National Cycle Network route 24 is to the north east of the sites and there's a direct cycle route to the nearest secondary school to the north. To help residents make sustainable travel choices, David Wilson Homes will provide residents with travel vouchers for use on local transport.

In addition to the provision of 30% affordable housing at Francis Fields, Barratt David Wilson Homes South West will contribute more than £1.6m to local education facilities, off-site highways works and measures such as a travel plan to help new residents get around sustainably.

The development will also include measures to enhance biodiversity and protect local wildlife, which includes some of the UK's rarest bat species. Existing hedgerows will be preserved wherever possible as commuting routes for wildlife. Other enhancements include bat boxes and swift bricks, hedgehog highways and a sensitive management regime for the open spaces and orchard planting for residents.

The development is named after local man, Jonathan Alexander Francis, known as Alex, who died in 2022 after a three-year battle with ALS, a form of Motor Neurone Disease. The developer will make a donation to MND Association in his memory.

Part L is designed to make homes incredibly energy-efficient so owners use less energy for heating, lighting, and their everyday needs, ultimately saving them money. The new requirements see buildings having to perform to higher standards to reduce CO2 emissions by 31%. These measures are also an interim step towards the Future Homes Standard launching in 2025.
