Children's Festival needs YOU - Town’s Biggest Family Fun Day – Join the Joy this July

The amazing Frome Children's Festival will be back for its anniversary 10th year on Sunday 21st July and the team behind it, local family support charity Purple Elephant, needs volunteers of all ages to help.

Roles include, for the early-risers, help to set up at about 8.30am - putting up signs, decorations and gazebos. Then, during the day, with shift choices between just 3 and 6 hours long, this festival of childhood fun, needs plenty of high-viz stewards. Offering directions on-site during the day, this role will put volunteers of all ages right at the heart of the fun.

A special handful of confident, mature 'welcome ambassadors' is also needed to help support families at strategic, priority fast-pass points. If you have the calm and confidence to enjoy meeting and talking with local families, this is the role for you.

For those who aren't up for joining the most physical tasks, a small number of keen volunteers are also required to staff the fundraising and volunteer recruitment stall throughout the day.

And, for those who have an hour or so as the festival closes, the organisers need plenty of extra hands in the clean-up crew to round off what promises to be, as always, one of the most joyful of Frome's annual community events.

Children's Festival founder, Sue Willis, explains, "We can't do this event without the people of Frome! There's no need for first-timers to be worried, because a full briefing for all roles is given and if you're short on time, but big on enthusiasm, we do not expect everyone to be available for the whole day; two or three hours of your day would be great. Anyone working over lunch time will of course get food vouchers for the outlets on site to make sure they don't go hungry."

In addition to being a part of the feelgood festival vibe and supporting one of Frome's most vital, popular and inclusive charities, any volunteers who give a full day of their time will receive meal vouchers from the fabulous South Asian-inspired Lungi Babas

The Children's Festival event is a gathering of around 3,000 people and over 40 activities with just some of this year's activities including zip wires over the river, theatre and dance shows, puppetry, a musical walkabout show, craft stalls, Scrapstore creative arts, face painting and a glitter bar, accessible basketball and Boccia, storytelling and ariel hoop and circus skills.

The organisers are keen to remind people that if they are coming along for the fun, that even though the festival remains free to all, they do need to book their FREE tickets this year, via website PurpleElephant.org.uk

If you have a few spare hours to offer on Sunday 21st July, please get in touch by the entry deadline of Friday 14th June. Please contact [email protected] to express your interest.
