A former Frome pub could be turned into offices - but only for a limited period - if plans are signed off by Somerset Council.

A planning application has been submitted which could see the Packhorse Inn on Christchurch Street West turned into offices, but only for a period of three years.

Plans state the grade II listed pub has been closed since 2016, with the current owner buying it at auction in 2017.

Since then "a significant amount of much-needed renovation" has been completed.

"However, there is no demand for another public house in this location whereas the applicant has an urgent need to relocate the offices for his business, Connor Construction," the application says.

It adds: "The application therefore seeks planning permission for a change of use of the premises but for a temporary three-year period to fulfil an immediate need and in the hope there will be demand for a new public house in future."
