Colour of the Year: Living Coral - the Frome interior design blog

Based in Netherlands, the Asko Nobel Global Aesthetic Centre leads Dulux paint analysis, working 18 months in advance to predict colour trends.

The team continuously monitor global social, design and consumer trends. Last year it was Dulux Spiced Honey.

This year's joyful PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral is sociable and spirited. The experts say:

"Engaging Living Coral symbolises optimism and embodies our desire for playful expression.

Representing the fusion of modern life, Living Coral appears in our natural surroundings and also displays a lively presence on social media."

So not sure if you buy into this, but Living Coral is a really cheerful colour that translates well into any environment and is surprisingly versatile for such a strong statement.

The colour's versatility invokes a luxurious glam feel referencing far flung places; Italian piazzas, streets of Mumbai or far flung bazaars.

Clean coral pink shades are perfect for painting feature walls and will raise the energy level in any area. Or just upcycle some dull old furniture such as a chest of drawers for some immediate style and a new lease of life.

If you have a modern living space that needs an injection of colour there are plenty of paint or quirky wallpaper options.

Finding a complementary palette that works well is surprisingly easy, but I particularly like the ocean life palette reflecting the natural environment in the sea.

You don't have to shell out big bucks for new furniture or beds, a few new accessories in this vibrant colour will give your décor a summery look. Add a bright accent with a desk lamp, some new towels or with some new Argos dinnerware.
