Proseprints, a community arts social enterprise based in Frome, recently facilitated a 'Bags for Life' project, to mark the 75th Anniversary of the signing of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on 10th December 1948. An exhibition showcasing some of the art created during the project will be on display at Frome Town Hall from 4th to 21st December, along with information about the history of the Human Rights Act.

With the support of Frome Town Council and local voluntary sector partners, Proseprints offered a series of fun, free, practical arts workshops in October, exploring human rights and why they are important to us, through the making of banners and printed and decorated cloth bags. As part of the workshop, participants were encouraged to discuss the importance of human rights, their hopes for the future and to explore the connection between human rights and the health of the planet.

Facilitator Rose Hunter said: 'The words 'human rights' often appear in the press, and not always in a good way, but what do they actually mean, what is their history and why are they important, now and in the future? The United Nations believes that the 75th anniversary offers a brilliant opportunity to citizens from across the world to explore these questions and engage in conversation and discussion. Our Bags for Life community arts project brought people of all ages together to think about human rights and make a piece of art that reflected their feelings and the discussions that took place. Proseprints would like to thank Active and in Touch, Frome Town Hall, Frome Multicultural Festival, The Good Heart, Fair Frome, Purple Elephant and Rowden House for their support and The Paper Bag company in Westbury, who supplied the cotton bags at a discount.'

Proseprints aims to create and offer thoughtful and affordable: nature and word-based artwork that raises funds to offer accessible, fun, print and word-based community art workshops to local not-for-profit groups. More information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/proseprintsart
