Congratulations to Alex Mallon who will captain the 1st XV at Frome RFC
Frome RFC Director of Rugby, Cameron Hastie is happy to announce that Alex Mallon will Captain the 1st XV for the upcoming 2021/22 season.
He said: "Alex's experience, personality and leadership skills make him the perfect player to drive the squad forward.. He sets great standards on and off the pitch and works hard to support all of the players within the group.
"He's an outstanding player who wears his heart on his sleeve and can be relied upon to get the job done. As the club No.8 he has the skills and ability in spades, we look forward to seeing him lead the 1st XV to success as we take on level 6 rugby in South West 1 (East) starting in September."
Alex commented that it will be an honour to be club captain in 2021/22. "This season will be very special in many ways, getting to finally compete following promotion into South West 1 (East) is immensely exciting and I feel very proud to do so as Captain. As a team we are aware of the challenges ahead, and look to continue the success of past seasons, which were led by John Benstead extremely well. With no competitive rugby matches for over a year it has certainly been tough, but I can't wait to get back to being around my team mates on a Saturday and enjoying the buzz of a busy Clubhouse afterwards."
Hastie added: "As we welcome Alex to his new role, we must pay our thanks to outgoing 1st XV & Club Captain, John Benstead and 2nd XV Captain Gordon Grierson. These two skippers have shown so much dedication and commitment and we thank them for all that they have done and achieved, they should be very proud of themselves."
With Grierson stepping downed 2nd XV Captain, the role now goes to the experienced David Abrahams. "Dave brings to the appointment an air of calmness and a cool head, making him a great asset on the field. We look forward to seeing Dave continue the success of the 2nd XV in Dorset & Wilts 1 North in 2021/22."
Abrahams commented on his new appointment "Its a great honour to be awarded Captaincy of the 2nd XV, we have a superb collection of players at the Club, and I look forward to competing again in the league, as well as supporting the 1st XV as we aim to develop players through the ranks."
Lastly the 3rd XV team Captain has been announced as Forward, Alistair Fisher. "Ali has shown commitment and dedication that has been noticed throughout the club, he leads from the front and has grasped his responsibilities with both hands, yet again we look forward to seeing the 3rd XV under the lead of Ali, succeed in Somerset 3 South."
Alistair said: "It's a privilege to be voted as the 3rd XV Captain. This will be my third season back playing at Frome and my first time as Captain. It's been a challenging time for Clubs but the players and staff have shown solidarity and uplifting morale throughout. I hopefully speak for everyone involved when I say as a Club, we look forward to some new challenges this season and will enjoy the chance to get back on the pitch with returning and new team mates when guidelines allow."
The announcements coincide with the release of the 2021/22 fixtures which kick off in September, as it stands the 1st XV will welcome Marlborough RFC to 'The Lane' on Sept 4th, with the 2nd XV also hosting Chippenham RFC 2nd XV. The 3rd XV kick off on the 25th Sept with a home fixture against Wells RFC III.
