Coronavirus update: Latest nationally reported deaths from coronavirus show South West lowest in UK

The government has today (August 28) released the official statistics of all the deaths involving coronavirus up until July 31.

The statistics for the whole period show that the South West as a whole has had the lowest proportion of deaths involving COVID-19, 2,906, making up 11.5% of the 25,262 total deaths.

For the single month of July, the region was also at the bottom of the list of numbers of deaths involving coronavirus - with 23 deaths.

The Office of National Statistics reported that there were a total of 51,831 deaths occurring in England and Wales between 1 March and 31 July 2020 ( registered by 15 August 2020 that involved the coronavirus) which in total represented 20% of all deaths occurring over this period, which was 259,199 deaths.

Checking on more local figures : Frome South & East accounted for eight deaths over the whole period two deaths in April and six in May and none in June or July. In the North of Frome the ONS interactive map reports one death which was in May.

Over into B&NES in Midsomer Norton North there has been just one death over the whole period, in Paulton there have been ten deaths.
