Frome police have put out an appeal for photos after they stopped a car believed to be involved in the cash scam where drivers in Frome are forced into collisions.

The scam is reportedly the highest in the UK in and around the Frome by-pass.

Now officers say that on the 12th July 2022 they were called to a male believed to be involved in possible 'Crash for Cash' scam.

They posted : " At the time luckily no one had fallen to victim of this scam and on this occasion and police caught up with the vehicle and dealt with the driver for driving offences thanks to the call from a member of public.

The vehicle was also seized and taken off the road. If anyone has any dash cam footage or stills of the driver involved that witnessed him driving on the 12th July on the A361 Frome bypass.

Police would like to hear from you regarding possible photos. Please call 101 with crime ref 5222165195. "

Forcing a crash or pretending that there has been a crash has been widely reported on local social media, but the public have repeatedly said that officers have either ignored their calls, or said, in the case to Frome Nub News, that the issue was not a big one.

However the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) warned drivers last month that gangs are increasingly spreading out from their typical crime hotspots to stage collisions in unsuspecting areas.

Top 10 new areas (by frequency) targeted by 'Crash for Cash' gangs in past 12 months

  1. Frome, Somerset
  2. Worksop, Nottinghamshire
  3. Cirencester, Gloucestershire
