On Friday 30th June DofE participants from Frome Community College joined Somerset DofE and Somerset Freemasons in a charity bike ride - taking in the sights and scenery between Frome and Midsomer Norton along the Collier's Way.

The group left the college on a grey summer's morning and arrived at the Connaught Lodge in Midsomer Norton, where they were greeted with bacon butties and sausage rolls. After a break and tour of the lodge, they then did the return journey, ending at the Frome Masonic Hall, a tour around this lodge allowed the young people to compare the two different lodges. Our thanks in particular go to Craig and Andy for their tours and to the supporting volunteers who provided refreshments in both of the lodges for the group.

The cycling party also popped into Pronto Bikes for a quick chat and photo stop - thank you to them for being so friendly and welcoming too .

The weather might have been a bit grey, but there were smiles all around, and the group had a great time out in the fresh air, using many DofE principles, like teamwork, resilience, and enjoyment.

Theo, The DofE leader from Frome College said 'well done to all 6 students who tackled the hills and rain - getting to know local cycle routes and learning about the Freemasons'.

This was number two in a series of bike rides, raising money for the Somerset DofE bursary fund - which is used to help disadvantaged young people across Somerset start their DofE journey.

If you would like further information about the bursary - whether as a young person or to donate - please email [email protected] and we will get back to you. Carol, Somerset DofE Ops Manager
