Cast and crew from Frome's upcoming production of 'Dad's Army' were out in force at the Cheese Show this weekend, keeping everyone in order, ready for the start of their theatre show next month.

Accompanied by Debbie-the-dog, some very chirpy renditions of 'White Cliffs of Dover' and the resounding Scottish shouts of "We're doomed, Captain, we're doomed!", the production's director, Anne Dimery, and the Project Play team spread the word that everyone in town is welcome to come along and indulge in some local laughter at the Merlin from 26-30 October.

The famous 1960s/70s TV show is fondly remembered by many and, as cast member Annette Lee told us, "So many people kept coming up to our chaps and telling them how much they look like the original characters. You wait until you see the full cast in full costumes, It's like going back in time."

Performing at the Merlin theatre, 25 local drama enthusiasts, including all-important backstage crew, will bring several of the old episodes back to life. Everyone is delighted that the much-loved 'Mum's Army' will be a part so that the women of Frome get a proper shot at joining in. Female volunteers were permitted in the Home Guard during the war so be prepared for some old-style sauce and even the suggestion of a romance or two.

If you'd like to see more of your local community acting company including Captain Mainwaring, "stupid boy" Pike, Jones, Godfrey and Wilson then take a seat at the Merlin Theatre 26-30 October www.merlintheatre.co.uk
