John Morgan, the drummer for The Wurzels, has died in Gloucester Royal Hospital after contracting coronavirus.

John died at the age of 80 on Friday (December 17) but was still playing with the band just two weeks ago.

The band's manager told the BBC that said he was their "oldest drummer in captivity" and had been performing with them since 1981

Today (December 18) the band were due to play Frome for a special Christmas party at the football club. They were planning to play for a few hours and afterwards have a meet with their fans.

Tommy Banner from the band posted : "We can't believe we shan't ever see you behind those drums again - we thought you were indestructible. We shall miss you John, you grumpy old b-----r, with your sharp, quirky Forest wit - oh, you were also a bloomin' great drummer, just like your hero, Charlie Watts."

"We are all in shock, Morgy had the driest of humour and the kindest of hearts and all are thoughts are with his family. The band intend to continue but John will always be remembered and loved by his fans, friends and band" - Sil Willcox, Wurzels Manager.
