Exhibition in Frome mixes central American influences and fairytales
A new exhibition is underway at Black Swan Arts, in Frome, that combines central American influences and the dark world of fairytales.
Corinna Sargood's exhibition Pictures and Dioramas is showing from now until December 21, with an artist's talk and live demonstrations on Wednesday December 4, from 6pm to 8pm.
There will be a children's day and live demonstrations on Saturday December 7, from 2pm to 4pm and a adults diorama workshop on Sunday December 15 from 11am to 4pm, priced at £45 – booking essential via the red button below.
The exhibition has been described as an extraordinary collection of multilayered, painted wood dioramas, dense and brilliant embroideries, prints and artist's books.
Corinna's work explores her life in Mexico, Peru, and the dark world of fairy tale. This show is a rare insight into some of her personal and never before publicly displayed work.
The show premieres a set of new embroideries based on tales from the Old Testament and a totally embroidered puppet theatre that tells the history of the conquest of Mexico.
Familiar to many through her lino-cut illustrations for Angela Carter's Virago Book of Fairytales, Corinna is showing some special hand printed and bound copies of The Tiger's Bride.
Corinna has made a family friendly colouring book for the show all about the uses of Mexican cacti.
The exhibition is full of magic, mystery, travel and history in the days leading to Christmas that should appeal to adults and children alike.
