Fair Housing for Frome and Community Land Trust - pop-up information stall in Frome this Saturday - 12th December.

Housing campaign group Fair Housing for Frome will be joining forces with the local Community Land Trust staging an information stall in the Westway Shopping Centre.

Fair Housing for Frome is a voluntary organisation working with landlords, tenants, lettings agents and rough sleepers support groups such as Elim Connect. The idea of this Saturday's pop-up stand is to help signpost local people to agencies that can help them with housing issues and accommodation-related problems.

This time of year brings many challenges to people who struggle, especially with associated COVID pandemic problems such as loss of income and threat of eviction. As the weather gets colder Fair Housing for Frome are currently working with Elim Connect and Frome Town Council in an effort to provide a Zero Nights Shelter in the town for rough sleepers.

Alongside the Fair Housing team will be representatives from Frome Area Community Land Trust.

FACLT has been working towards obtaining land in Frome for the last 18 months where they can to build genuinely affordable housing for local people. As with Fair Housing for Frome FACLT is also a voluntary organisation.

Community Land Trusts in the UK are a proven route to providing new socially rented homes. With the desperate need for more social housing in Frome FACLT is now seen as one of the best routes for getting affordable rental homes built in the town. One of the main strengths associated with Community Land Trust owned properties is that they remain genuinely affordable in perpetuity. This means that they can never be bought or sold, they remain as rental properties available for local people or people with local connections.

2021 is likely to be busy year for both Fair Housing for Frome and Frome Area Community Land Trust so come along to the Westway Shopping Centre and meet the team, hear what they have planned and if you have housing related issues please come and talk. The stall will be open this Saturday 12th December from 9am to 2pm.
