Another group of residents in Frome has come together to oppose proposals to build on a green space close to their homes.

The residents of Farley Close , a cul de sac close to Hayesdown First School, are fighting proposals to build on a green space which is where, they say children play together, have fun, lots of fresh air and most importantly are extremely safe.

Campaigners told Nub News: " We are trying to ask local communities to help us #savefarleyclosegreen by objecting to the proposal. We have a Facebook page - 'Farley Close' for residents to come to."

Fair Homes Project is a partnership between Selwood Housing, Frome Area Community Land Trust and Mendip District Council.

You can read more about the proposals and put forward your view, which has to be in by June 11, by clicking HERE: the Selwood Housing site for Farley Close

Meanwhile at another site under consideration, at The Mount in Frome, they are holding a public meeting to put forward a collective response to the proposals.

They told Nub News : "We are completely supportive of any project that aims to address the needs for social housing in our town but are sad to see the green spaces in our area being considered for this project. The Mount is an area of town with lots of income families and residents already in social housing and the green spaces were designed to break up the terraced houses and provide a much needed natural respite, especially in the recent times during lockdown and restricted access to places outside of the immediate area. "

The Fair Homes project has earmarked a number of potential plots across several sites in Frome, with the project reporting that around 500 households are currently seeking a social home in the town.

Up to 30 homes could be delivered across eight sites in Frome, with one, Tower View already withdrawn.

The other proposed sites are:

Farley Close,

Feltham Drive & Austin Close,

Grovemead,

Hodders,

Land at Cranmore View and the Grove,

Mountfield,

Randolph Road,

and Selwood Crescent.
