Local Frome, professional singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist Kate Lissauer is honoured and excited to announce her first live gig for 5 months will take place as a fund-raising event with the Merlin Theatre on 15th August.

Well-known on the touring scene as band leader for old-time country string band the Buffalo Gals, an evening with Kate is always a delight with her humorous stories and warm rapport with audiences. As part of the theatre's outdoor summer programme Kate's fiddle, banjo, guitar and voice talents will be joined by master 'foot and body percussionist' Jenny Read.

The art of 'body percussion' is seen in the music of many cultures and, in the case of traditional American music, the stomping, striking and dance stepping of the traditional Appalachian 'flat foot' dance style represent and replace the rhythms often represented by drumming in other musical genres. Body percussion also makes use of patting, clapping and noises with the whole body, not just the feet. In the case of the Frome audience in August, they will see Jenny freestyle dancing using the influences of her skills in clog dance and African boot dance too.

Hailing originally from Maryland in the USA, roots music, country-influenced and bluegrass talent Kate tells us "Obviously I play and sing all the time at home but to be offered the chance to play again for a live show after 5 months is very exciting. The Merlin theatre is an important resource for the whole community but also holds a very special place indeed in my heart; we can hardly wait."
