Fire crews from across the county stood in silence (February 13) honouring one of their own who died tackling a blaze at a former department store in Edinburgh.

Thirty eight year old Barry Martin, 38, died of his injuries four days after going into the fire at the former Jenners on Princes Street on January 23.

On Monday, crews lined up outside fire stations for one minute's silence in his honour, and his funeral will be held this coming Friday. He was the first Scottish firefighter to die in the line of duty since 2009.

The fire service recently halted plans for industrial action with the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) announcing on 8 February that a planned strike was being postponed following a revised pay offer. The FBU will now ballot members on the new offer.
