Liberal Democrat MP for Somerton and Frome Sarah Dyke has tabled a parliamentary motion raising concern about the impact of flooding caused by Storm Henk and calling on the government to increase Environment Agency funding.

In the Early Day Motion (EDM), tabled on the 11th of January, Sarah Dyke outlines the significant impact that flooding has on the mental health of those affected by it and highlights that it is often the most vulnerable who experience the worst impact.

Three days earlier, following a statement about Storm Henk in the House of Commons by Robbie Moore, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Sarah Dyke took the opportunity to ask the government whether help would be provided to communities affected by flooding to create bespoke extreme weather resilience plans.

Sarah Dyke, Liberal Democrat MP for Somerton and Frome, said: "Storm Henk was just the latest catastrophic event to have affected the residents of Somerton and Frome.

"I want the government to increase funding for the Environment Agency and to provide the support needed for local communities in affected areas to create their own extreme weather resilience plans, so that they're better prepared for the next one."
