In a far from scientific piece of research Frome Nub News visited the centre of Frome today (July 19) to see how the lifting of restrictions is being followed.

Under rules lifted after 480 days of coronavirus restrictions, masks are no longer mandatory, except in certain circumstances. So essentially it has become a matter of personal choice whether to wear them or not.

Nub News saw people still wearing face coverings in the streets, and in one supermarket the staff were all still masked.

The rules that came in today are that there are no longer any limits on the number of people who can meet up and the one metre limit to how close you can be to another person has been removed ( although it will still be expected in Frome hospital).

Face coverings are no longer required by law, although the government still "expects and recommends" them in crowded and enclosed spaces.

We noticed that one bus driver we saw was not wearing a mask, while some passengers were.

In terms of entertainment and social gatherings, nightclubs can reopen, although Fat Sams in Midsomer Norton will not be re-opening until July 23.

Pubs and restaurants no longer table-service only and there are no limits on guests at weddings and funerals.

As far as Nub News was able to tell the local supermarkets were operating normally, with national headlines saying that because so many staff are being 'pinged' and having to self isolate, the shops have been cutting their hours.
