Frome-based documentary photographer Mark Brookes has released a quirky town calendar for 2020.

Mark, who provided most of the images for the popular 2019 Frome Calendar, has gathered together 12 of his Frome images that reflect the alternative and more challenging side of the town including images of graffiti, Red Rebels from Extinction Rebellion and even a child stopping traffic during the recent schools climate strike.

Mark, who lives in Frome and studied photography at Salisbury College, ran a successful photography business in Wiltshire, moving to Frome eight years ago with his partner, musician Vicki Burke, and began to document his adopted town, producing a range of popular postcards.

His last calendar project for 2019 with Frome-based stationary shop and printers Postscript, together with Dawn Denton from the Frome Diary, inspired him to put together a new calendar for 2020 under his own name.

Mark's 2020 Frome Calendar is available from Hunting Raven Books in Cheap Street, Fromie Gifts in Stony Street and Postscript, also in Stony Street.

Mark said: "I wasn't really thinking of doing another local calendar until Stony Street-based Nicky Bragg, owner of Fromie Gifts, convinced me to go it alone and keep the brand going.

"I then chatted to the team at Postscript who agreed to produce the calendar for me with graphic design by their in-house designer Bridie Fry and that was it.

"This time it's a much smaller print run but I've been able to feature quite a few of my more alternative images.

"There are other more traditional calendars and views of our town available which is great but from my perspective Frome can be quite alternative so that's how I wanted the calendar to be."

The mainstay of Mark's work is documentary and fine art photography. With recent success in the prestigious Evolver Art Awards and inclusion in the annual Black Swan Exhibition, Mark is now looking to push his work further.

Other images, including photographs from the recent London Extinction Rebellion climate protests and collaborations with local models using masks created by Frome-based artist Gladys Paulus, will be on show and available to purchase at the Silk Mill during the Festive Frome Art Fair on November 30.
