Musician Josh Hampson's decision to shave his head and beard to raise funds for the NHS has failed to receive rave reviews from his wife of less than a year...or their dog.
But the good news is that, by braving the shave, the head of music at Frome College has raised more than £300 for newly-created Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
Josh told Frome Nub News: "I haven't been clean shaven since I was 18 and I'm 26 now.
"My wife, Emily, spent the first couple of days glowering at me - it didn't go down very well.
"Even I did a double-take in the mirror every time I saw my reflection.
"I wore a hat for 24 hours because I was cold and sad.
"Thankfully, now the donations have started to come in, she's forgiven me.
"And I will be growing back both my hair and beard."
Emily, who has been with Josh for seven years and married for eight months, is head of music at Frome's Selwood Academy.
She wasn't the only one perturbed by her husband's new look.
"The dog has been very confused, although he's starting to come round," explained Josh. "But it's all for a good cause. I wanted to do something for the NHS, it needs all the support it can get right now." Josh set up an online fundraising page with a £100 target - but thanks to the generosity of supporters £310 has already been pledged. Anyone who would like to donate can do so here. the donation link Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (Somerset FT) came into being on Tuesday (1 April), when Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust merged. It is the first trust on the English mainland to provide combined community, mental health and acute hospital services.
