Frome Community College was evacuated on Wednesday morning (8 May) after receiving a hoax call claiming a bomb had been planted on the school site.

The call was made at around 8.30am by an unknown individual. Avon and Somerset Police were immediately alerted and officers attended the college to search the premises alongside staff.

Students in the affected area were safely evacuated while the search took place. Although pupils were told it was due to a gas leak at the time, police later confirmed the incident had been triggered by a false bomb threat.

No suspicious items were found during the search, and the call was deemed to be malicious.

A normal school day resumed shortly afterwards, and all students returned to their lessons once the site was declared safe.

Police have not confirmed whether an investigation is ongoing to trace the individual behind the hoax. Frome Community College has not yet released a public statement.

The incident follows a separate disruption at the college earlier this term, when the site was closed due to IT and technical issues.
