Frome Community Fridge has officially re-opened - with a new lick of paint - but with restricted opening hours.

And although they are thrilled to be back with this community open to all resource only the larder side can be used at the moment, and only for two two hours a day from 4pm -6pm.

Organiser Terri Pitts explained to Nub News: "The reason we have chosen 4-6 is that we can collect during the day and have it stocked and manned. Face masks and social distancing applies. We do have some spare face masks if needed.

"The issue with the fridge is also the double doors, whereas the larder we can prop the door open and people can take what they need.

"We are taking things slowly so that if there was to be a second wave of the coronavirus that we can easily maintain the hours we are doing and remain open. We are currently relying on our marvellous food stores to support us. So there has been a delay in some of them coming forward to help. "

Terri added : " We have also given the larder a fresh lick of paint and maintenance is all up together."

Frome Town Mayor Anita Collier said: " If you can donate, or even better, you can also persuade bigger grocery organisations to do so, we can get this back up and rolling in no time.Huge thanks to Terri Pitts who works so hard to look after this amazing community asset. Well done, Terri."

The Frome Mayor said: " I was delighted to go along to the opening with Terri Pitts who has always worked so hard to keep this running.

"Currently the idea is to start slowly so that it can be safely managed, and masks are requested at all times.

"At the moment the larder will be open every day from 4pm - 6pm and although the fridge itself will not be in use, the plan is for one of the volunteers to work from a table outside the fridge to offer perishable goods at the same time, hopefully starting tomorrow.

"Our community fridge, which incidentally was the first in the country, is a wonderful asset and is open to everyone in order to help reduce wastage. We're hoping more organisations will start donating again soon and that the fridge and the larder will soon be stocked with lots of goodies.

It's wonderful that the community fridge, like the share shop (which is now open again), reflect the generosity and community spirit which is so inherent in Frome. Makes me so proud to be Mayor".

The team want to offer special thanks to Frome Town Council and Edventure for all the help and support during the lockdown and helping them re-open.
