It is great to be able to report a Frome success story, one that definitely won't have a happy ending - on the screen that is.

That's because the Frome film company, Fizz and Ginger, has already over achieved in a crowdfunder, and now their latest film , a horror, could make it into cinemas.

The team behind the scary movie, Dagr, started a fundraiser HERE to help with post production costs and now they have exceeded the target, the additional money could be used to boost the independent movie and the award-winning company behind it.

Writer and director Matthew Butler-Hart told Nub News : " We've wrapped on the filming now, and it's become a bigger and more layered beast than we imagined, so we need a boost in our post-production budget to get it onto your screens.

"Having these funds will mean we can deliver this film on an even larger canvas than we'd planned, ultimately meaning you get a better horror experience. We've tried to push the boundaries of what is normally done in a found footage movie, and we really think that the results will be worth the extra effort, and money.

"So anything that comes in now will go towards getting it into cinemas (which is hugely expensive for indie filmmakers), so we're really hoping we can get some extra money in to help making that happen. Films need to be seen with an audience, especially horror films - that shared experience is all part of the fun."

For this movie, the Fizz and Ginger team have gone all out

Dagr is set in Brecon, Wales, but some of the scenes were filmed in Frome and made to look like the same spooky Welsh mansion. It has been shot across three time lines and is Matthew's fifth film, with previous credits including Two Down starring Alex Hassell, The Isle starring Conleth Hill, and Infinitum: Subject Unknown starring Sir Ian Mckellen.

The company has just cast a teacher from Bradford On Avon as the voice of the evil ghost with Matthew explaining : " It is a very different way of doing things for us - we've only ever worked with trained actors, but he had a great voice and really understood the assignment of what we needed for a folk horror (he's a big fan of folk horror, so got the vibe straight away). "

Fizz and Ginger Films was established in 2009 by husband and wife team Matthew and Tori Butler-Hart, with the aim of producing high quality British films with both established and emerging talent.

Blood lust

How fabulous is the plot line of Dagr ?

"Fame seeking YouTubers stumble into a paranormal nightmare when they discover an advert team filming a fashion shoot in a remote country house in Wales. What appears to be a fatal accident quickly escalates into a fight for survival against a druid demon with an unquenchable blood lust."

The race is now on to complete the film in time for a Halloween release date.
