Fire services from Wiltshire and B&NES were brought in to deal with a big rubbish fire which is ablaze and smoke drifting across A361 which started yesterday (July 31).

Fire Control received several 999 calls to a fire involving a pile of tyres close to Rode. One fire engine from Trowbridge attended and requested a second fire engine from Frome and a water bowser from Pewsey due to a large quantity of tyres and rubbish well alight.

Fire crews also requested the attendance of the police due to smoke from the incident potentially affecting the nearby A361.

Fire crews then requested the attendance of a further two fire engines from Bradford-On-Avon and Warminster due to the fire spreading to the perimeter fencing and grassland of an adjoining property.

Fire crews tackled the fire with two main jets and compressed air foam systems.
