Frome Halfords re-opens because it can do safely : with vital help for cyclists

Local News by Susie Watkins 27th Mar 2020

Staff in Halfords in Frome were back serving customers today (March 27) at least with bike repairs, having imposed safe working practices.

The shop will be open until 6pm today and hopes to resume normal opening hours from Monday.

As Nub News reported Halfords closed all its stores, nationwide earlier this week.

But it is hoping to re-open more than half of its stores to offer bike services after bike shops were designated an essential service under the government's latest coronavirus control measures.

That has now included the Frome branch but not Midsomer Norton which is reportedly "too small to be made safe to operate."

In a statement the car parts, bike and servicing group said : " It was seeking to strike a balance between providing essential motoring and cycling services to the UK public alongside guaranteeing the personal safety of our customers and colleagues."

The store was open today (March 27) helping one cycling enthusiast, who did not want to be named, who says he will be out exercising on it later today.

Halfords in Frome hopes to be open from 9am until 8pm until further notice.
