Frome Independent has very autumn feel

By Susie Watkins 2nd Oct 2022

Mushrooms and apples, ales and woodland animals. This month's Frome Independent had a very autumn feel.

After an early deluge of rain, the skies brightened and with food very much on the agenda, the area outside Frome Library was cultivated by the Frome Food Network, with free juice from the apple press using fruit sourced from local gardens with Dowdings, who make wild orchard cider and apple juice (and recently won Gold at the British Cider Championships 2022 and Gold at the Taste of the West 2022). And a fascinating how-to-spore mushroom by inoculating logs with spores shown by the team from 42 Acres

Elsewhere there were the usual market favourites, including local Frome ale maker, who has been appearing at the monthly market for the past five years.

And new, at least to Frome Nub News, textile artist Ella Kearvell with her handcrafted fabric souls. You can find out more about her characterful characters HERE.

Ella, went to Stroud College in Street, where her final work inspired her business, creating a miniature doll based around the lives of the Flax Picking Women during WW1.

On her stall her latest characters include a cocktail-loving hare and a Midsomer goat. A real suitcase showstopper on the bridge.
