A piece of land in Frome which has planning permission for three, four-bed homes and a studio to be built on it, has been put on the market.

Bids for the land near The Retreat are to be submitted by Wednesday 18 September, property agent Cooper and Tanner has said.

Planning permission for the development was controversially approved in 2021, with some work starting on site last September.

The plans saw opposition from hundreds of locals, who feared they will lead to a pedestrian link between the Wallbridge and Adderwell areas of the town being lost forever.

A guide price has not been given for the plot, with the listing simply saying price on application.

The brochure says: "We are delighted to be able to offer this exciting development opportunity in the popular town of Frome.

"Located on the Eastern side of the town this small oasis of land has the benefit of planning for three detached properties with ownership leading down to the River Frome.

"This development also comprises of three studios in a commercial unit which will be offered as commercial office space.

"The houses have been designed with open plan living and the slightly sloping gardens provides a lovely view to the river Frome and the surrounding area. Each property has the benefit of two parking spaces.

"Access is via a shared drive and the site is in close proximity to the town centre and the mainline railway station and although so close the site has a very peaceful and tranquil ambience.

"The concept of these buildings has been based on old Engine sheds which were located close by, therefore retaining a link to the historical nature of the surrounding area."
