The landlady of one of the most treasured inns in Frome, has spoken of her comfort from all those who have sent cards and flowers and messages following the death of her mother, Freda Searle.

Freda died on November 16, aged, as her daughter says, 99 and a half.

She had been the landlady of the Lamb and Fountain, known as Mothers to everyone who had ever visited, and as it it written on the pub sign, since 1969.

Sue told Nub News that it was her mother's final wish that the pub, originally known just as The Fountain, would stay exactly the same, and that she would keep that pledge.

Sue told us: " It is still early days but I am comforted by the fact that even people who had never met her, knew about her and had a lot of respect for her, that is very touching. People had so much admiration for her.

" I am keeping the pub open the same it has always been. It won't change because that is what mum wanted, she wanted the pub to carry on with me, with the name of Searle above the door, and for it to be like it always was.

" It is not for me to say because I am her daughter, but everyone will tell you its the end of an era, and it wont be the same."

Details of the funeral are still being finalised, but it will at Trinity Church, with an event held later at Frome Rugby Club, again what Freda had wished for.

Freda Searle born 5.5. 1922 died 16.11.2021
