Frome Museum has been praised for a make over of all that the town offers with a new web site and access to previously archived records.

The museum, in its quirky building on North Parade, has always been a fascinating place, with amazing local records, ever-changing exhibitions and a vibrant collection of all of Frome's history. But now it is easier to find out what is in there with an on-line search too.

All via hard work of the local historians who have been thanked by Finding Frome for making maps, documents and letters more accessible.

The new site even has a page dedicated to the history of the local vets, showcasing the ground-breaking history of the Garston Veterinary Group.

A permanent exhibition in the museum features a recreation of a veterinary surgery and displays of medication, veterinary equipment and all manner of items collected over the decades – all donated from the archives of the Garston Veterinary Group.

To accompany this exhibition and to celebrate the fascinating history of the practice, a book has been published by the museum. Entitled 'Pioneers in Practice: the Vets of Garston House' and written by Lorraine Johnson, the book tells the remarkable story of this unique country practice.

The story is inspirational for the practice's vets were truly revolutionary. From the ground-breaking work caring for the exotic animals at Longleat Safari Park to innovative research and study of early vaccines for farm animals, the vets were true pioneers.

The book 'Pioneers in Practice: the Vets of Garston House', is now on sale at Frome Heritage Museum, Garston Veterinary Practice and local bookshops price £18. Telephone/email orders should be sent to Frome Heritage Museum, 1 North Parade, Frome, BA11 1AT (01373 454611 or [email protected]).
