Frome has been voted the fourth most welcoming places to stay in the UK, according to the Traveller Review Awards 2021.

The town comes in a list topped by Enniskillen in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and ahead of Glastonbury which comes in at number 10.

Drawing on millions of customer reviews, the Booking.com website has announced it will present 1,147,344 Traveller Review Awards for 2021, recognising accommodation partners across 220 countries and territories, including 48,649 UK winners, who made travel experiences more memorable for travellers.

A spokesperson for Booking.com said: "Even amidst a year of uncertainty and untold challenges for the entire travel industry, 2020 proved the world is still full of amazing hospitality and great hosts ready to provide people with incredible travel experiences.

"With a mission to make it easier for everyone to experience the world, whether it's far away from home or just around the corner, Booking.com connects travellers with great travel providers and experiences across the globe.

"Based on the share of properties receiving one of its Traveller Review Award in 2021, Booking.com has revealed the most welcoming places in the UK, so travellers can experience the best in hospitality and friendliness whenever it's safe again to do so."

This year's awards also reveal insights into traveller preferences throughout the past year, and can uncover that British travellers appreciate staff, cleanliness and location most when reviewing award-winning properties on the platform, with those attributes scoring highest among the categories that travellers rate following their stay.

These preferences are consistent with global trends. With consumers increasingly conscious of health and hygiene, notably, on average, winners had a cleanliness score that was 17 per cent higher than the average cleanliness score for non-winners, suggesting it may be a differentiator for a more perfect welcome.

The Most Welcoming Places in the UK Top 10 list is:

  1. Enniskillen, County Fermanagh
  2. Fort Augustus, Highlands
  3. Kirkwall, Orkney
  4. Frome, Somerset
  5. Drumnadrochit, Highlands
  6. Douglas, Isle of Man
  7. Stirling, Central Scotland
  8. Sidmouth, Devon
  9. Ballycastle, County Antrim
  10. Glastonbury, Somerset
