According to the BBC the UN cultural body UNESCO has urged the government to make amendments to a controversial plan for a road tunnel near Stonehenge.

The World Heritage Site (WHS) is at risk of being placed on the danger list if changes are not made to the plans for a tunnel on the A303.

National Highways' plans were approved by the government in July and Frome Nub News reported them HERE

The scheme includes four 'green bridges' will cross the new dual carriageway and eight miles of new and improved dual carriageway road. But most controversial are the plans for a twin-bore tunnel, around two miles long, passing more than 200 metres to the south of Stonehenge at its closest point, further away than the existing road.

A petition against the scheme has gathered 225,000 signatures from 147 countries urging the UK Government to halt plans for what campaigners say is a "damaging" road scheme.
