Frome Play area versus Skate Park : Unhappiness as under coronavirus rules one can be open, one needs to close

Frome's Skate Park was this morning open, following another tense time as skate boarders clashed with local families.

The conflict at the site is in part at least, due to the fact that the skate park and courts should be closed under coronavirus regulations, but on the same field, the play area is allowed to remain open.

But the skating site was today (February 7) open.

One comment on a heated debate on local social media called it stupid that one section of the park is out of bounds, yet families gather in the other.

Another added : "Less risk at the skate park than young kids touching every surface in the play park. Its nuts to shut one and not the other. "

Police officers have told Nub News off the record that they are aware of the problem and are ready to deal with the anti social behaviour at the park and will be handing out fines to those breaking coronavirus rules by using the site.

The skate boarding pipes are at Mary Baily Playing Fields, adjacent to Victoria Park.

This week Frome Town Council, in response to a police warning on Twitter for people not to gather in large groups at the park, sent out another advisory on what can be open and what cant be under coronavirus regulations.

Under government guidelines :

Skate parks, tennis courts, pump tracks, outdoor gyms - should all be closed. While play areas are allowed to be open.
